Walk into Division 11 at Cook County Jail and the first thing you notice are the murals. Bold, colorful, and unmistakable — they're the work of our art program students.
The RFC Art Studio gives students a creative outlet in one of the most difficult environments imaginable. Through painting, drawing, and mixed media, students explore their experiences, express their identity, and build a portfolio of work that reflects who they are beyond their circumstances.

More Than
Making Art
Art supports mental health. Jail is a trying place — physically and mentally. Our art program provides a space for reflection, focus, and accomplishment. For many students, it's the first time anyone has told them their creative voice matters. We have a wide range of options including oil paints, watercolors, charcoal sketching, and calligraphy supplies, so artists of all skill sets can find the medium that inspires them.
